Company History

Meat processing is one of the leading industries in the agro-industrial complex of the Republic of Belarus. There are 380 enterprises varying in status, equipment facilities and specialization, engaged into livestock processing and meat production, of which 26 are meat processing plants.

JSC "Mogilyov meat-packing plant" is one of the largest enterprises in the meat-packing industry of the Republic of Belarus. It was founded in 1905 as a local slaughterhouse. All the stages of livestock and by-products processing were then done manually. There was no hot water supply, electricity or frost. The overall processing capacity didn’t exceed 20 cattle per day. In 1913 the enterprise underwent reconstruction and was equipped with a salt-ice cooling refrigerator, thus gaining the output capacity of up to 5 tons of meat per day.

In 1922 a sausage-making shop for 1-ton output per shift was built. Over the pre-war five-year plans the enterprise was continuously raising its output and in 1940 it was able to process 10 tons of meat and was producing 2 tons of sausage goods per shift. During the war the plant was totally destructed. Restoration of the enterprise started after the liberation of Mogilev in 1944.

In 1950-1953 new production buildings were erected and put into service with an estimated capacity of: 20 tons of meat, 4 tons of sausage goods, 5 tons of poultry meat. A freezer with 20 tons cooling capacity per day, where also up to 1000 tons meat could be stored simultaneously, was built.

Over the years 1959-1965 a number of technical and organizational improvements were introduced to raise the production capacity. As a result of inner reconstruction of the building more than 1000 m2 of working area were released, meat and sausage making shop were rebuilt. With no additional buildings erected, the production capacity on the same area was raised from 20 to 50 tons of meat per shift, from 4 to 8 tons of sausage goods, and from 20 to 40 tons of meat chilled per day. At the same time 15 new combined production lines and more than 440 items of high-performance equipment were brought into use. A great contribution into the technical upgrading of production has been made by our inventors and development engineers.

In the years 1966-170 a new stage in the reconstruction and expansion of the plant took place. As a result the cooling capacity of the freezer increased three-fold and amounted to 100 tons per day and allowed to store up to 3000 tons of meat simultaneously.

In 1969-1970 the reconstruction and expansion of the sausage making shop took place, thus increasing its output capacity from 8 to 12 tons of sausage goods per shift. This allowed to raise the production volume by 2,9 times, labor efficiency  - by 34%, and double the profit. For successful execution of the five–year plan and high technical and economic performance rates, according to the Decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR of January 6, 1971, JSC "Mogilyov meat-packing plant" has been awarded with The Order of the Red Banner of Labour.

During the years 1971-1975 about 160-170 tons of meat per shift were processed at the plant, of which 7 tons were poultry meat, 40 tons of sausage goods, 3 tons of pelmeni, 15 tons of semi-finished products, 8 tons of dry animal feeds and 7 tons of rendered fat.

The production volume over 1971-1975 had grown by 40,6%, labor efficiency  - by 27,0% and the profit – by 44%. Much attention was given to the upgrading of production standards and quality improvement of the produced goods. A complex system of production quality management was developed which in 1976 was approved for implementation on meat processing plants of the Republic. 16 products were awarded with a state Quality label, and the plant got the high honour to be called the enterprise conforming to the high production standards.

In 1978-1983 the plant produces more than 300 tons, 156 names of food and technical products per day. About 1,5 thousand people worked there. The production area comprised 27ha.

In the years 70-80s the staff of Mogilyov meat-packing plant has several times been awarded with certificates and diplomas of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet and the Council of Ministers of the USSR. In 1985 the production plan was exceeded by 106,7%.

By the beginning of 90s Mogilyov meat-packing plant produced 12 thousand tons of sausage products, 23 thousand tons of beef, 14 thousand tons of pork meat, 8 thousand tons of semifinished meat, 2 tons of portioned meat a year. The number staff members remained 1,5 thousand people.

After the collapse of the Soviet Union in 1991 and the breakdown of the traditional economic relations (with the old managing approaches being preserved) there came recessionary trends into beef and dairy industry, which resulted in a significant decline of production volumes and rise of production cost of goods. Thus in 1999 on the Mogilyov meat-packing plant 15 thousand tons of meat and its by-products, 8 thousand tons of sausage goods and 5 thousand tons of semifinished meat have been produced. Such a significant decline in the production volumes (more than 2 times less than in 1991) was stipulated not only by reduction of the livestock population on the region collective and state-owned farms but also by the rise of production cost of goods produced by the plant, as the purchasing prices on meat were inflated in comparison to the world ones.

30 January 2002 the plant was registered as JSC "Mogilyov meat-packing plant" by the state agency authorized to manage the enterprise assets, which is the Mogilev region executive committee on agriculture and foodstuffs. JSC "Mogilyov meat-packing plant" is an independent entity with a right of the legal body, which enjoys the rights and exercises the functions, provided by the Law of the Republic of Belarus “On the enterprises in the Republic of Belarus”.

Today JSC "Mogilyov meat-packing plant" is a modern enterprise with considerable production capacities and highly trained staff.

We work on the strengthening of relations between the raw-material base on the one hand and a distributive network on the other hand. We expand the range of products, introduce the state-of-the-art equipment, update technological processes, raise high production standards and create the best conditions for high-performance labour.
